Primary Responsibilities

The Chief Inspector must have a familiarity with broad spectrum of construction materials, methods and processes, specifically with regards to bridge and highway projects.

Job responsibilities include directing the activities of Inspector(s) and Sr. Inspector(s) to ensure inspection activities are conducted and documented and that schedules are maintained.

Reviews project documents including Inspector daily work reports, contract plans and specifications, submittals, shop drawings, contract changes, and other pertinent documents.

May also be required to perform field inspection duties themselves.

Receives supervision and support from Resident Engineer and/or Project Manager.

Work assignments may include nighttime and weekend shifts.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • NICET IV or equivalent is required
  • 10 years of relevant experience as a Coatings Inspector on a multidisciplinary projects
  • Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
  • Experience working on bridge and highway work is preferred.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be computer literate, experience with NYSDOT Site Manager is desired as well as Microsoft office, Microsoft Project and related PC software packages used for construction projects.
  • *Preference given to local candidates

Preferred Qualifications

  • NACE certification is desirable
  • PE license is desirable

Typical starting pay range for this position is $96,513.00 - $137,875.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
