The role reports to the Global Quality Manager and is located in Hackettstown, New Jersey. As a Lean MFG Intern, in this position you will be providing an opportunity for a student to learn firsthand, the principles of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement and teamwork skills.

Your responsibilities

  • Support Kaizen event preparation, participation and/or follow-up, including taking before and after pictures, waste observation, assist in the designing and assembly of material racks or carts, assist with the layout and assembly of tool carts, floor taping and other duties as assigned
  • Support 5S implementation, including but not limited to, audits and corrective actions
  • Assist with Visual management
  • Support Lean training simulation
  • Familiarity with power tools, including band saw, drills, circular saw, table saw, grinders, chop saw
  • Ability to take responsibility for various roles learned
  • Ability to stay focused on the task at hand
  • Ability to be personally connected to others on the job, maintain a processional demeanor with a positive attitude
  • Ability to enjoy oneself, learn at the same time and to be assertive in asking questions
  • Ability to maintain work area standard
  • Ability to acquire an understanding of lean principles
  • Ability to commit oneself to work on a personal level
  • Interest in embodying both the lean principles as well as ABB culture and values
  • Ability to respect others' views and ideas and come to the best solutions
  • Ability to demonstrate professional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Support any other responsibilities as assigned
Your background

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions; write identifying information; request parts or supplies verbally or in writing
  • Exposure to Lean and 6Sigma concepts
  • Exposure to project management concepts
  • Advanced Excel users
  • Able to read manufacturing documentation & Specifications
