Responsibilities

The communications director will lead a strategic approach to managing our organization's reputation, engaging stakeholders, and effectively communicating key messages on a national scale. It is a critical role for shaping public perception, building relationships, and driving positive outcomes for Hazelden Betty Ford.

As a key business partner across the organization, this role will lead the external public relations, media relations, and external communications functions of the organization. The communications director will enhance our reputation as the national leader in addiction research, treatment and recovery expertise, providing public relations leadership, strategy and support to Hazelden Betty Ford as an enterprise and to each of the organization's business units. The communications director will play a critical role in collaborating across the organization, including the executive team, to actively enroll stakeholders in the communications plan.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
  • Minimum seven years' experience working in journalism, communications, and/or media relations
  • Minimum three years' experience in a leadership position
  • Excellent oral and written communication and a demonstrated ability to create persuasive and clear oral and written communications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The ability to think strategically and provide communications counsel to senior leadership and lead the development of communication strategies and plans to drive results.
  • An extraordinary ability to work collaboratively and productively with executives, clients, and partners at all levels.
  • Experience in the chemical dependency field having established working acquaintances with national chemical dependency associations,
  • Relationships with local market and/or national media outlets
  • Experience with social media, understanding of different platforms and audiences
